Sangamon Co Sheriff’s Deputy Charged In Killing Of Sonya Massey
(Springfield, IL) — A Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy is charged in the deadly shooting of a woman earlier this month. Sean Grayson was indicted on multiple charges, including murder. Authorities say Sonya Massey called 911 on July 6th to report a possible intruder around her home on Hoover Avenue. Grayson and another deputy made contact with Massey. During the interaction inside the home, Grayson shot and killed Massey. Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser says a review of the State Police investigation, which included body camera footage, didn’t support that Grayson was justified in his use of deadly force. Grayson’s employment with the Sheriff’s Office has been terminated and body cam videos will be released next Monday.
