The Macon County Fair Board has released the following statement in regards to Friday night’s incident.
To The Public :
On Friday, June 7th at approximately 8:48 PM there was a report of a shot fired at the fair. Immediately our board, security, and law enforcement responded to the area. No patrons were located who were injured in this unfortunate incident. Due to the seriousness of this incident, it was decided that all fair activity was to be suspended immediately out of concern for the safety of all fairgoers. Our foremost priority is the safety of everyone.
Due to the serious nature of events here are the following changes for the remainder of the 2024 Macon County Fair:
– We will be increasing law enforcement presence on the grounds
– Our carnival will begin at noon on Saturday only and will shut down at 8pm on Saturday and Sunday both. Armbands will be split into two sessions each day at $25 a session. Saturday from noon to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm. Sunday sessions will be 1pm to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm.
– Patrons 17 years old and under must be accompanied by a legal guardian
– Our Southeast fair gate will be closed for the remainder of the 2024 fair
Our livestock and grandstand events will continue as scheduled. We greatly appreciate our first responders for handling things promptly and professionally. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Macon County Sheriff’s office at 217-424-1311.
