Beloved Silverback Gorilla at Brookfield Zoo Dies

A beloved resident of the Brookfield Zoo has died. JoJo was a male silverback western lowland gorilla who was known around the zoo for keeping order in the gorilla group by breaking up fights. Zoo officials say he passed away this last weekend from a cardiac arrest during an emergency veterinary procedure. JoJo was 42 years old when he died — well past the life expectancy of 32 years for the endangered species. He leaves behind three children at the Brookfield Zoo.
