Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim’s funeral will be held in Decatur today. Upon its conclusion, a large processional will take Officer Oberheim to his final resting place in Monticello, Ill.
The processional will begin to pass through the Millikin University campus area on Fairview Ave. (Rt. 48) at approximately 1:40 p.m. Anyone wishing to honor Officer Oberheim and his family for their sacrifice is welcome to line the route. Campus parking lots located at Kirkland Fine Arts Center, across from the Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) and next to Westminster Presbyterian Church (1360 W. Main St.) are available for members of the public to park in.
Community members are reminded that this processional will be very lengthy and will result in Fairview Ave. being closed at all intersections from South Side Drive to Pershing Rd. for a significant period of time starting at approximately 1:30 p.m. Alternate route planning will be necessary to avoid extended delays if you need to cross Fairview Ave. (Rt. 48) during this processional. It should be noted that US Rt. 36 can bypass the processional route if traveling East or West.
