A new bill in Illinois would let retired teachers come back to work for school districts in the midst of a substitute teacher shortage. Decatur State Representative Sue Scherer introduced the bill. It is written so that they would be able to come back to work without risking their retirement benefits.
The current legislation only allows retirees to come back to work and not risk their retirement annuity only if they work for at least a full school year without exceeding 600 hours or 120 paid days.
