The State of Illinois generated $10 million in taxes on recreational marijuana in its first month of implementation. Over $7 million of that was due to cannabis tax itself, with an additional $3.1 million from retail tax.
Pritzker’s budget expected the tax would generate $28 million through June, with that now expected to be surpassed.
According to the state, nearly $40 million was spent on recreational marijuana and related products.
