The inmate who stabbed a Vermillion County Sheriff’s Deputy in the face over the weekend has died.
Daryl Perkins was being moved from one holding cell to another early Friday. After the cell door opened, Perkins then attacked the deputy, stabbing him multiple times in the face.
In retaliation, the deputy pulled out his firearm and shot Perkins. Perkins was scheduled to appear in court on charges of aggravated domestic battery the same day he attacked the deputy. The deputy has not been identified.
