Governor Pritzker has signed legislation that will increase penalties for violating Scott’s Law.
Scott’s Law requires drivers to reduce speed and, if possible, switch lanes upon encountering emergency vehicles with the emergency lights on the side of the road. The new fine for a first-time offense has been raised by $500. A first-time violation will cost the driver $750. The change also makes injuring or killing someone while violating the law a class 4 felony.
