Thousands of people in Illinois will have their unemployment checks delayed this week because of computer problems at the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Approximately 30,000 people, who were supposed to be paid Wednesday, will have to wait. The agency is optimistic that the system will be fixed and those who are waiting will be paid by Friday.
The agency says the computers are facing a database error. The department is responsible for the benefits of more than 80,000 people.
