A Macon County inmate is receiving a mental health evaluation even though he claims he doesn’t require one. A judge made the ruling while Jarius T. Fuller, who has a history of mental illness, was in court pleading not guilty to two charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer as well as two more charges of aggravated battery.
Fuller’s public defender has said that Fuller is not fit to stand trial. Now, Macon County taxpayers will cover the $2,800 bill for the mental health exam. The judge became convinced during a hearing today, despite Fuller insisting he did not need to see a psychologist.
Fuller’s charges stem from an October 2018 incident in which Fuller attacked two correctional officers as well as two inmates.
The mental illness hearing has been scheduled for August 12th.
