The defense’s request to delay the sentencing of Brendt Christensen, the man who is convicted of killing Yingying Zhang, who was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois, is being denied. Defense attorneys said Tuesday that prosecutors turned in a large amount of victim impact videos which included some of the victim. They said it would take weeks to translate and transcribe the videos so they asked for a delay in the sentencing. A federal judge issued a ruling Wednesday which ordered prosecutors to turn over specific clips which the government is planning on playing at the sentencing and to have them transcribed. Sentencing in the case is set to start on Monday. Brendt Christensen could receive the death penalty.
