The Decatur Police Department is having a campaign for safety through July 8th. This will focus on the three summer weekends that lead up to Independence Day and the weekend after.
They ask residents and visitors to celebrate safely and to not drive if you have been drinking or using drugs. About 160 police departments and sheriff’s offices are participating in the statewide campaign.
The Decatur Police advise to:
Give your designated driver your keys.
If you are impaired, use a ride-sharing or taxi service, take mass transit or call a friend or family member to take you home.
Make sure people in your vehicle use safety belts.
