A workforce crisis is affecting thousands of children who are currently in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.
High turnover rates for caseworkers at private agencies that contract with DCFS have lead to longer stays for children in the foster care system. An executive director of one such agency said DCFS is part of the issue because they hire directly from contracting agencies, which then struggle to stay staffed.
