Former Decatur high school and Purdue University basketball star Lewis Jackson was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday after he plead guilty to a drug charge. However, he took a plea deal that means he will likely be free in four to six months.
The plea deal would impose the prison sentence with a recommendation that Jackson would be selected to “impact incarceration” by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Jackson plead guilty to possession of three to 15 grams of heroin with intent to deliver, which is considered a Class One felony. The charges that were dropped include possession and manufacture and delivery of 15-100 grams of heroin.
Jackson was stopped on I-72 near Decatur on June 17, 2017 and was in possession of a bookbag that housed nearly 75 grams of heroin.
