Legislation was introduced that would protect Illinoisans from the gradually increasing price of insulin. The plan would cap the amount that patients would need to pay for the life-saving medication.
Senate Bill 667 would grant a cap on co-payments for the medication at $100 per month. That figure is regardless of what amount of supply the patient would require.
The price of insulin has been increased by a large percentage in recent years. It has been reported that the price tripled in 11 years from 2002-2013.
If the measure passes, it would make Illinois only the second state in the country to put a cap on insulin payments.
