Decatur Memorial Hospital is set to become the second largest hospital in Memorial Health System. The Springfield-based health system includes Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, as well as other such as: Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln and Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
The boards of both organizations reached an affiliation agreement in late April, and full affiliation is currently set to occur on October 1, 2019.
Decatur Memorial Hospital is one of the largest employers in Decatur and Macon County. They have more than 2,300 employees and 300 medical staff. They will add that to Memorial Health System, which has nearly 7,100 staff members and 900 partnering physicians.
“Remaining on the leading edge of health and patient care is critical to delivering on our mission,” said Timothy D. Stone Jr., who is president and CEO of DMH. “Joining a neighboring, like-minded, leading healthcare organization will help us provide lower-cost higher quality healthcare using innovative practices and technology.”
As an affiliate of MHS, Decatur Memorial Hospital will maintain their local governance and leadership with day-to-day DMH operations being managed by the DMH executive team. They will also maintain a local community board of directors, which is similar to other MHS affiliates and will have directors that serve on the MHS board.
