A bill that would suspend the use of a basic skills test necessary for Illinois teaching licenses will soon make its way to the Governor’s desk. Thursday, the measure was passed through the state senate. This would put a hold on the test of basic skills until July of 2025.
This would also require the Illinois State Board of Education to rework its method of scoring a different mandatory test that potential teachers also need to pass. This move is an effort to relieve a shortage in Illinois teachers.
