New legislation may allow Illinois residents to use their food stamps at restaurants. The proposed law, known as the “Restaurant Meals Program,” would allow the use of SNAP vouchers at restaurants that contract with the Decatur Department of Human Services. Only SNAP users who are disabled, elderly or homeless would qualify for the program. The law has already passed the House, and is on its way to the Senate with it going into effect next year if signed.
