Ice fishing is a fun and exciting time, waking up early to meet with friends gathering your supplies for the day’s event. What people don’t know is that ice fishing can be very dangerous. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources wants to give everyone some friendly reminders to help keep them safe on the ice this ice fishing season. The biggest tip being not to go out on the ice until you are sure the ice is at least 4 inches thick. 4 inches should be strong enough to hold a persons weight and supplies but the Illinois Department of Naturel Resources urges you to test before getting out on the ice.
