(Foxboro, MA) — The Patriots are taking a chance on troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon. New England has acquired Gordon from the Cleveland Browns for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick. Gordon is a two-time Pro Bowler, but has played just 11 games since 2014 due to suspensions and off-field issues. He’s currently dealing with a hamstring injury.

(Phoenix, AZ) — Kyle Hendricks threw eight-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball as the Cubs beat the Diamondbacks 5-1 in Phoenix. Hendricks allowed only three hits and struck out eight for the win. Javier Baez and Kris Bryant hit two-run homers for Chicago, which still leads Milwaukee by two-and-a-half games in the NL Central. The Cubs’ magic number to clinch the division is 10.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Christian Yelich made history in going 4-for-4 with four RBI as the Brewers blanked the Reds 8-0 in Milwaukee. Yelich became the first player in 100 years to hit for the cycle twice against the same team in the same season. The Brewers hold the top NL wild card and are two-and-a-half games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.

(Ames, IA) — A 22-year-old man is charged with murdering an Iowa State golf star. The body of Celia Barquin Arozamena [[ ah-roz-uh-MEE-nuh ]] was found at a golf course in Ames yesterday. Police say she’d been assaulted before she was killed. The 22-year-old was the 2018 Big 12 women’s golf champion and Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year.
