(Charlotte, NC) — NASCAR CEO Brian France is taking a leave of absence after being arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance. He was pulled over Sunday night in New York with a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit. Police say France was also in possession of Oxycodone pills.

(Chapel Hill, NC) — The North Carolina Tar Heels are suspending 13 football players for selling team-issued Nike Jordan sneakers. Nine of the 13 players will miss four games, including quarterback Chazz Surratt. He started seven games for the Tar Heels last fall. UNC self-reported the violations to the NCAA back in January.

(Columbus, OH) — Buckeye Nation is standing with football coach Urban Meyer. Around 200 came to Ohio Stadium to show support for Meyer, who is being investigated for what he knew about alleged domestic violence by former assistant coach Zach Smith. The father of current Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was among them.

(Kansas City, MO) — Cole Hamels pitched six innings of one-run ball as the Cubs cut down the Royals 3-1 in Kansas City. Javier Baez[[ BY-ez ]] snapped a 1-all tie with a solo homer in the sixth and added an RBI double for insurance in the ninth. Chicago has won three of its last four.

(Kansas City, MO) — Baby steps for Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant to return to action are set to begin. Bryant will do some baseball work on the diamond this week, including fielding grounders. It’s going to be his first action since July 23rd as he continues to rehab his left shoulder. In other news, Yu Darvish is scheduled to throw live batting practice before tomorrow’s game.

(Chicago, IL) — The White Sox couldn’t get to Lance Lynn as they were blanked by the Yankees 7-0 to open a three-game series in Chicago. Dylan Covey was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs in six-and-a-third innings. Chicago had only three hits and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

(Miami, FL) — Luke Weaver was outdueled by Wei-Yin Chen as the Cardinals lost 2-1 to the Marlins in Miami. Weaver allowed two runs in six frames to fall to 6-and-10. Matt Carpenter’s bases-loaded walk broke up the shutout in the ninth for St. Louis. Marcell Ozuna had three hits in defeat.

(Houston, TX) — Another Astros All-Star is heading to the disabled list. George Springer was placed on the 10-day DL Monday with a sprained left thumb. He’s expected to be out two weeks and joins Jose Altuve [[ al-TOO-vay ]] and Carlos Correa on the DL. The reigning World Series MVP is batting .250 with 19 home runs this season.
