(St. Louis, MO) — Jose Martinez put the Cardinals ahead with a two-run homer in the third inning and they went on to top the Padres 5-2 in St. Louis. Marcell Ozuna and Jedd Gyorko also went deep as the Cards did all of their damage via the long ball. Jack Flaherty tossed six-and-a-third frames of one-run ball for the win and Bud Norris locked down the save. The Cardinals have won four-of-five.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Anthony Rizzo’s go-ahead solo homer ignited a five-run 11th inning as the Cubs beat the Brewers 7-2 in the opener of a three-game series at Miller Park. Jason Heyward capped the big inning with a two-run double. He finished with three hits and three RBI for the Cubs, who have won nine of their last 11 to move a half-game ahead of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central.

(Chicago, IL) — Carlos Carrasco tossed seven shutout innings with 11 strikeouts to pace the Indians to a 4-0 win over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Carrasco improved to 8-and-4, holding Chicago to two hits and a walk. Lucas Giolito took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks in five innings. Giolito is 4-and-7.

(Seattle, WA) — Nelson Cruz connected for two home runs to help the Mariners pick up a 5-3 win against the Angels to begin a three-game series at Safeco Field. Mike Trout had two homers of his own, but it wasn’t enough to get Los Angeles the victory. Seattle is atop the American League West at 42-and-24, a half-game ahead of the Astros and five-and-a-half in front of the Halos.

(Baltimore, MD) — Red Sox star Mookie Betts was back in the lineup as they beat the Orioles 2-0 in 12 innings at Camden Yards. Betts was 1-for-5 after missing 14 games with an abdominal strange. Boston improved to 45-and-22, putting them in a virtual tie with the Yankees for first in the American League East.

(Singapore) — Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is in Singapore in a show of support for the summit between the U.S. and North Korea. Rodman didn’t participate in the talks between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Rodman has met with Kim in North Korea several times. He was also a contestant on Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice.”

(Detroit, MI) — The Pistons have landed on their replacement for Stan Van Gundy. Detroit announce Dwane Casey will be the organization’s next head coach. ESPN reports he will received a five-year contract. Casey is coming off a 59-win season with the Raptors, but was fired after they were swept out of the playoffs by the Cavaliers in the second round. He reached the postseason five times in seven seasons with Toronto.

(Frisco, TX) — The Dallas Cowboys are making Zack Martin the highest-paid guard in NFL history. Multiple outlets report the ‘Boys have signed Martin to a six-year contract extension that also gives him the most-ever guaranteed money for his position. The 27-year-old has earned four straight trips to the Pro Bowl while starting all 64 games to begin his career. Martin was drafted 16th overall by Dallas in 2014 out of Notre Dame.
