(Springfield, IL) — Illinois lawmakers are one vote away from a new state budget. The Illinois Senate last night overwhelmingly approved the 38-and-a-half-billion-dollar spending plan. Both Republicans and Democrats are claiming the budget is balanced and good for the state. Democrats say the new state budget spends more on schools and Illinois’ social services. Republicans say they were able to demand some spending cuts. The Illinois House is expected to approve the plan later today.
