(Springfield, IL) — Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner will decide if new teachers in Illinois deserve 40 thousand dollars a year to start. The Illinois House Wednesday approved a plan to increase the starting salary for all teachers in Illinois to 40 thousand-dollars withing the next five years. Supporters, like state Rep Christian Mitchell, say the idea is to encourage more college students to become teachers. Opponents say Illinois schools can’t afford to be ordered to pay new teachers more money.
