(Springfield, IL) – Leading advocates for women’s rights will call on gubernatorial candidates Bruce Rauner and J.B. Pritzker to pledge to protect recent legislative victories that guarantee a woman’s right to choose Thursday. State Representative Sara Feigenholtz and state Senator Heather Steans will join Personal PAC President and CEO Terry Cosgrove at a press conference at 10 a.m. in the AFL-CIO office at 534 S. 2nd Street in Springfield.
“Last year, Illinois enacted one of the most important pieces of pro-choice legislation to be enacted by any state since the 1973 landmark Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision,” Cosgrove said. “But as long as Washington politicians threaten women’s health and safety, we need to know that our leaders will defend the right to choose in Illinois.”
As extreme anti-choice politicians push a lawsuit and three separate bills attempting to dismantle House Bill 40’s promise of reproductive freedom for all Illinois women, Personal PAC’s pledge would commit Pritzker and Rauner to not sign any legislation that repeals, modifies or in any way diminishes House Bill 40 throughout their term.
