(Springfield, IL) — It could cost almost 300 million dollars to get rid of Legionnaires disease at the state’s veterans home in Quincy. A report that’s due to be released to lawmakers in May is suggesting that Illinois essentially build a brand new campus. Thirteen people have died, and dozens of others have gotten sick from Legionnaires at the home due to old pipes and an out of date water treatment center. The 278 million-dollar price tag in the report would cover the cost to build new dorms for the veterans, a new plumbing system, and a new well for water.
