People jumped in an icy Lake Decatur on Saturday in order to raise money for Special Olympics. Saturday’s Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge saw at least mild air temperatures of 52 degrees, making it feel a bit less of a Polar Plunge. The event raised $95,207, the most money raised in the event’s 17-year history in Decatur. Officials say that number could still grow a bit, as donations will be accepted until April 27. Joanie Keyes, who oversees Special Olympics activities in 17 Illinois counties, said the money will go towards new equipment and “whatever else is necessary to promote quality competition for Special Olympians in the region.”
