(Champaign, IL) — David Griffet of Mahomet-Semour did what every student athlete sets out to do and that is to be in position to win a state title and on Friday that quest continued, after a 3-1 win over Billy Blaser of Geneseo.
Kooper Loehr of Mt. Zion lost in the ultimate tiebreaker to the number one ranked and returning state finalist Hassan Johnson of Chicago Brother Rice but will have an opportunity to place third. Ben Stahl of Mahomet-Seymour and Garrette Branson of Mattooon both lost in the semifinals at 220 pounds but both will have a shot at third place and are guaranteed a spot on the podium. Caleb Guise of Decatur Eisenhower won in the ultimate tiebreaker 5-2 to keep his state tournament alive.
