(Champaign, IL) — Class 1A kicked off the 2018 IHSA Individual State Wrestling Tournament inside the State Farm Center in Champaign on Thursday afternoon. Clinton brought an area high five wrestlers to the tournament and saw three of them advance to the quarterfinals, with all five still alive entering Friday morning. Christian Reynolds at a 145 pounds for Clinton started off the day with a fall in 11 seconds, followed by a fall at the end of the 1st period by teammate Luke Shobe at 170 pounds and an upset at 182 by teammate Micah Downs over #3 ranked Jake Frost of Tolono Unity.
Monticello’s Ethan O’Linc at 120 pounds started off his tournament with a fall late in the second period and teammate Henry Dawson fell to Cameron White of Chicago (Bowen) by a way of technical fall in the second period.
Senior Cade Helton of Shelbyville is looking to make everything of his senior year at the state tournament as he moved on to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 decision over Lane Miller of Stanford (Olympia). Adam Maxell of Warrensburg-Latham who was making his first appearance at the State Farm Center fell to Keaton Fogler the number two ranked Heavyweight in Class 1A by fall late in the third period.
