Late-season severe weather is expected Sunday across much of central and eastern Illinois. According to the National Weather Service, the greatest chance for strong storms, damaging winds, and large hail will be Sunday afternoon and into the evening hours. The severe weather threat stretches from the extreme southern suburbs of Chicago through Champaign and Macon Counties, all the way to an area southwest of Effingham. The weather service says primary threats will be golf ball (or larger) size hail, and wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour. Isolated tornadoes also can’t be ruled out in a corridor between I-74 and I-70.
