(Springfield, IL) — Fewer people are sick with West Nile in Illinois this year. The Illinois Department of Public Health yesterday said the state has just 16 human cases of West Nile, compared to nearly 90 at this point last year. An IDPH spokeswoman said they don’t really have an explanation as to why. But the state says this is the time of year when human West Nile cases peak, so people still need to protect themselves.
