(Davie, FL) — The season could be over for Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill. ESPN reports the team fears Tannehill will need season-ending knee surgery after going down in yesterday’s practice. Tannehill avoided surgery after originally injuring the knee last December.

(Canton, OH) — The NFL preseason is underway. The exhibition slate kicked off with the Cowboys clipping the Cardinals 20-18 in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place tomorrow. Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Davis, Jason Taylor, Kenny Easley and Jerry Jones make up the Class of 2017.

(Undated) — Alabama is ranked number-one in the preseason Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. The Crimson Tide received 49 of the 65 first-place votes to earn the top spot. Ohio State is second, followed by Florida State, USC and defending national champion Clemson. Penn State, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan and Wisconsin round out the top-10.

(Chicago, IL) — Paul Goldschmidt homered three times to power the Diamondbacks to a wild 10-8 win over the Cubs in Chicago. Goldschmidt launched a tiebreaking solo shot in the ninth and finished with six RBI. Willson Contreras went deep twice for the Cubs in defeat.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Brett Cecil gave up a go-ahead single to Keon Broxton in the fifth inning as the Cardinals lost 2-1 to the Brewers in Milwaukee. Greg Garcia’s RBI single in the top half had just tied the game at one for St. Louis, which lost two of three in the series. Kolten Wong had two hits for the Cards, just missing a game-tying home run in the eighth inning.

(Boston, MA) — Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer during a four-run first and the Red Sox went on to down the White Sox 9-5 in the opener of a four-game set in Boston. Nicky Delmonico hit his first career homer for Chicago, which is 3-and-15 since the All-Star break. Miguel Gonzalez allowed seven runs in less than two innings to fall to 5-and-10.

(Cleveland, OH) — Corey Kluber went the distance to lead the Indians to a 5-1 win over the Yankees in the opener of a four-game set in Cleveland. Kluber struck out 11 en route to improving to 9-and-3. Sonny Gray allowed four runs, but just two earned, in six innings to suffer the loss in his Yankee debut.
