Death and taxes. U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, (R) Illinois, addressing the federal estate tax while campaigning in Decatur.
Kirk says he would like to see federal inheritance, or death taxes, be lowered. Especially for family farms and small businesses.
Kirk is sponsoring legislation to lower the estate tax and says he has bipartisan support. He warns the tax will skyrocket under an administration led by Hillary Clinton. “When you add Hillary’s death tax of 65% to Illinois’ 16%, it means on the death of somebody who owns a substantial amount of property, the government gets 81%,” Kirk told WAND’s Doug Wolfe. Kirk, wearing a Chicago Cubs hat, made his comments at the Macon County Farm Bureau. Kirk has roots in Moultrie County. His father grew up in Sullivan.
