(Rio de Janeiro) — The United States Olympic Committee is apologizing for the actions of four members of their men’s swimming team involved in an incident at a Rio gas station. Ryan Lochte and three other swimmers are accused of lying about being robbed at gunpoint during the games. Brazilian police said the swimmers were not victims of a robbery and that they vandalized a gas station.

(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) — The world’s fastest man is in the record books once again. Jamaican track star Usain Bolt blew away the field en route to winning the gold medal in the 200-meter race last night in Rio. He’s the first runner to win gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter races in three straight Olympics.

(Chicago, IL) — Kris Bryant went deep twice to power the Cubs past the Brewers 9-6 from Wrigley Field. Bryant went 5-for-5 and drove in five. Jake Arrieta improved to 15-and-5 despite giving up five runs while walking seven batters. Aroldis Chapman earned his seventh save for the Cubs, which have won 18 of 21. The Cubs begin a nine-game western road trip tonight at Colorado.

(Cleveland, OH) — The White Sox suffered a 5-4 loss to the Indians in the rubber match of a three-game set in Cleveland. Justin Morneau ripped a bases-clearing double in the first for Chicago. Jacob Turner took the loss after allowing the decisive run in the ninth inning.

(Philadelphia, PA) — After an off-day, the Cardinals begin a three-game series against the Phillies tonight at Citizens Bank Park. Adam Wainwright starts for St. Louis. He’s 9-and-7 with a 4.72 ERA. Philadelphia sends Adam Morgan to the mound. He’s 1-and-7 with a 6.62 ERA. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.

(Foxboro, MA) — The Patriots edged the Bears, 23-22, in a preseason affair at Gillette Stadium. Jay Cutler was 8-of-12 for 83 yards. Jeremy Langford rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. The Bears continue preseason play against the Chiefs next week.

(Foxboro, MA) — A freak thumb injury kept Patriots quarterback Tom Brady out of last night’s preseason game against the Bears. Brady sliced his thumb with scissors while attempting to get something out of the bottom of his cleats prior to the game. He was expected to start before the injury.

(New Orleans, LA) — Former NFL defensive back Darren Sharper is being sentenced to 18 years in prison for drugging and sexually assaulting nine women. The 40-year-old Sharper had pleaded guilty or no contest to raping the women across California, Arizona, Nevada and Louisiana.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts host the Ravens in Week Two of preseason action tomorrow night at Lucas Oil Stadium. Quarterback Andrew Luck is expected to make his preseason debut. Indianapolis is coming off a 19-18 win over Buffalo last week. The Colts wrap up the preseason with games against the Philadelphia Eagles and at the Cincinnati Bengals.
