Warriors forward Draymond Green is apologizing to his teammates for a halftime tirade Saturday at Oklahoma City. He issued a statement saying he made a mistake and let his emotions get the best of him. The 53-and-5 Warriors went on to beat the Thunder in overtime.
Russell Westbrook logged his ninth triple-double of the season as the Thunder trounced the Kings, 131-116. Westbrook had 20 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists to help OKC bounce back from Saturday’s OT loss to the Warriors.
The newly-minted number-one team in the nation had no problem taking down a top-25 foe. Kansas scored the game’s first 15 points and coasted to an 86-56 win over 22nd-ranked Texas. The Jayhawks improved to 26-and-4.
The Bears are placing the franchise tag on star wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. He will be due to earn just under 14.6-million dollars in 2016, but still has until July 15th to work out a multi-year contract. Jeffery led Chicago in receiving yards last season with 807 despite being limited to just nine games by injury.
The Patriots are extending the contract of star quarterback Tom Brady. ESPN reports the 38-year-old is getting an additional two years that locks him up through the 2019 season. The four-time Super Bowl champ passed for 4,770 yards, 36 touchdowns and just seven interceptions last season.
Grapefruit and Cactus League play gets underway today. Three Grapefruit League games are on the schedule in Florida, including the Pirates against the Tigers. The Reds and Indians will square off in the Cactus League opener in Arizona.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is another step closer to being ready for Opening Day. He caught his first bullpen on Monday with pitcher Adam Wainwright as he works his way back from two offseason thumb surgeries. Molina was hurt last September on a tag play at the plate.
Illinois will play its final two regular season games on the road, beginning Thursday at 12th-ranked Maryland. The Fighting Illini beat Minnesota 84-71 on Sunday to halt a two-game slide and improve to 13-and-16 overall and 5-and-11 in the Big Ten. The Terps are 23-and-6.
