Steph Curry scored 42 points as the Warriors nipped the Heat, 118-112. Curry matched an NBA record by making a three-pointer in his 127th straight regular-season game. Golden State improved to 51-and-5 with the win.
E’Twaun Moore and Taj Gibson scored 17 points apiece as the undermanned Bulls beat the Wizards, 109-104. Pau Gasol collected 10 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in Chicago’s third straight win. Jimmy Butler missed his seventh consecutive game. The Bulls visit the Hawks tomorrow.
The top-ranked team in college hoops was taken down last night. Fifth-ranked Xavier led by three at halftime and pulled away for a 90-83 home win over number-one Villanova. The Wildcats lost for the first time since January 24th.
Villanova wasn’t the only top-10 team knocked off last night. Number-eight Iowa was upended at home by Wisconsin, 67-59, while 10th-ranked Arizona couldn’t come all the way back in a 75-72 road loss to Colorado. Four top-10 teams have suffered losses this week.
Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is taking the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” to court. “JPP” is suing ESPN and reporter Adam Schefter after his medical records were posted on social media last July. The records showed Pierre-Paul had a finger amputated following a fireworks accident.
Wide receiver Andre Johnson is one-and-done with Indianapolis. NFL.com reports that the 14-year veteran isn’t expected to return to the Colts. Johnson’s agent told the “Houston Chronicle” that he hasn’t discussed retirement with his client. Johnson signed a three-year, 21-million-dollar deal with Indy last offseason, and the Colts would have to eat a 7.5-million-dollar cap hit for cutting him.
Tiger Woods posted a video of him swinging a nine-iron in a golf simulator. His agent says the video is an effort to counter social media rumors that his back has gotten worse since a pair of surgeries last fall. Woods hasn’t played in a tournament since last August.
Illinois is at home tonight hosting 15th-ranked Indiana. The Fighting Illini have lost three of their last four games, including Sunday’s 69-60 setback against Wisconsin. Illinois is 12-and-15 overall and 4-and-10 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers beat the Illini 103-69 back on January 19th.
