The Cavaliers extended the Bulls’ losing streak to five with a 106-95 win in Cleveland. Derrick Rose scored 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting for Chicago, which dropped to 27-and-26. The Bulls are right back in action tonight against the Raptors.
No big names were moved prior to the NBA’s trade deadline. The Clippers acquired Jeff Green from the Grizzlies, while the Cavaliers landed Channing Frye in a deal with the Magic. ESPN reports the Rockets’ asking price for center Dwight Howard was too steep.
Another top-10 team in college hoops was taken down last night. Minnesota led by 12 at halftime and held on to top fifth-ranked Maryland, 68-63. The Terrapins are fourth top-10 team to suffer a loss this week.
Jaden Schwartz scored the winning goal 1:40 into overtime as the Blues clipped the Kings 2-1 at Scottrade Center. Robby Fabbri [[ FAB-ree ]] tallied in the first period for the Blues, who have won four in-a-row. Brian Elliott made 34 saves in the victory. The Blues play the Coyotes in Arizona tomorrow night.
The Blackhawks are celebrating another Stanley Cup championship in the nation’s capital. President Obama welcomed the team to the White House yesterday after the Blackhawks won hockey’s biggest prize last summer. The team presented the President with a Blackhawks Obama 15 jersey, a miniature replica of the Stanley Cup and a parking pass to all events at Chicago’s United Center.
Panthers defensive end Jared Allen is calling it a career. The 33-year-old led the NFL in sacks in both 2007 and 2011 and had been the NFL’s active leader with 136. Allen played 12 seasons with the Chiefs, Vikings, Bears and Panthers.
The field for the Daytona 500 is set. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and defending Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch took the checkered flags in their respective Can-AM Duels for Sunday’s “Great American Race” last night. Rookie Chase Elliott will start in the pole position. Sunday’s Race can be heard on 98.1, Griz FM.
Illinois returns to the court Sunday at Wisconsin. The Illini routed Rutgers 82-66 on Tuesday to halt a two-game slide. Illinois had won just three of its previous 12 games and is 12-and-14 overall and 4-and-9 in the Big Ten. The Badgers lost to ninth-ranked Michigan State last night.
