Bills running back LeSean McCoy could soon be arrested for his alleged involvement in the assault of two off-duty police officers at a Philadelphia nightclub. Multiple reports say the case is being turned over to the district attorney’s office, with the recommendation of criminal charges against McCoy.
The wife of Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams has passed away. Forty-four-year-old Ingrid Williams died last night after being injured in a car accident Tuesday evening. Monty and Ingrid have five children who range from five to 17 years old.
Dennis Schroder led eight Hawks in double figures with 18 points as Atlanta bulldozed Chicago, 113-90. Pau Gasol went for 20 points and 10 boards for the Bulls. Derrick Rose had 14 points on 6-of-18 shooting in his return from a one-game absence.
LeBron James scored 29 points as the Cavaliers held off Kobe Bryant’s Lakers, 120-111. Bryant had 17 points in his final game in Cleveland. Cavs forward Kevin Love missed the second half with a shoulder injury he described as a “stinger”.
The Warriors rolled into the All-Star break with a 112-104 win over the Suns. The 48-and-4 Warriors have won 11 in-a-row and are off to the best 52-game start in NBA history.
Spring training doesn’t start until next week, but Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday is already in Florida getting some work in. He’s taking some grounder at first base, but says it’s just an effort to make him more versatile in a pinch. Pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter next Wednesday.
It was a tough night for top-25 teams in college hoops. Number-13 Texas A&M was edged by Alabama, 63-62. Texas Tech knocked off 15th-ranked Iowa State in overtime, 85-82, while Marquette downed 17th-ranked Providence in double-overtime, 96-91.
Illinois is on the road Saturday at Northwestern. The Fighting Illini lost 77-65 to then-seventh-ranked Iowa on Sunday. Illinois has dropped eight of its last 11 games to fall to 11-and-13 overall and 3-and-8 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats have lost six-of-seven to slip to 16-and-9 on the year.
