One of the best in football is apparently ready to walk away. ESPN reports Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is retiring. The 30-year-old Johnson reportedly told friends and family before the 2015 season that the campaign would be his last.
Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes as Team Irvin blew out Team Rice, 49-27, in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston fired a pair of touchdown tosses apiece, while Allen Robinson had 105 receiving yards and a score in the victory.
The combatants in Super Bowl 50 have arrived in northern California. The NFC champion Panthers and AFC champion Broncos touched down at the site of the NFL’s title game yesterday. The teams will meet the media as part of “Super Bowl Opening Night” this evening.
Team Pacific edged Team Atlantic, 1-0, in the championship of the NHL All-Star Game tournament in Nashville. Corey Perry scored the lone goal and John Scott took home MVP honors of the three-on-three, two-round event. The season resumes tomorrow night.
The Clippers used a big second half to blow out the Bulls, 120-93. Jimmy Butler netted 23 points for Chicago, which was outscored 69-46 after intermission. Pau Gasol had 15 points and 14 rebounds in defeat. The 26-and-20 Bulls battle the Jazz tonight.
Draymond Green recorded his ninth triple-double of the season as the Warriors crushed the Knicks, 116-95. Green had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Warriors improved to 44-and-4 with the victory.
