A matchup between the NBA’s top two teams was a one-sided affair. Steph Curry scored 37 points as the Warriors slammed the Spurs, 120-90. Golden State improved to 41-and-4 with the win. San Antonio dropped to 38-and-7.
The Cavaliers gave Tyronn Lue his first win as head coach with a 114-107 victory over the Timberwolves. LeBron James had 25 points and nine assists for the Cavs, who played for the second time since Lue took over last Friday.
The Heat outscored the Bulls 28-16 in the fourth quarter to pull out an 89-84 win. Pau Gasol had 19 points and 17 rebounds for Chicago, which has lost seven of 10. Derrick Rose did not play in the second half due to back and hamstring issues. The Bulls visit the Lakers Thursday.
A new week of college hoops begins with another top-five team going down. Third-ranked Kansas went ice cold in the second half en route to an 85-72 loss to 16th-ranked Iowa State. The Cyclones outscored the Jayhawks 49-29 after intermission.
The Colts have gone from having no players in the Pro Bowl to having two as cornerback Vontae Davis and safety Mike Adams will both be heading to Hawaii. Adams will replace Seattle safety Kam Chancellor, who will miss the game due to injury. Davis was named to the team in place of Denver cornerback Chris Harris Jr., who will be playing in the Super Bowl.
Serena Williams is into the semifinals at the Australian Open after posting a straight-set win over Maria Sharapova. The top-seeded Williams beat Sharapova for the 18th straight time. She’ll face Agnieszka Radwanska [[ ag-nee-ESH-kah rad-VHAN-skah ]] in the semis.
The Mets will retire the number of Hall of Fame electee Mike Piazza. The Mets will retire the former catcher’s number 31 jersey in July. Piazza will join Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver and managers Gil Hodges and Casey Stengel as the only uniformed Mets whose numbers have been retired.
Illinois welcomes Ohio State to Champaign on Thursday. The Illini snapped a two-game losing streak with an overtime win against Minnesota on Saturday. Illinois had lost five-of-six before that and is now 10-and-10 overall and 2-and-5 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes are 12-and-8.
