Two first-timers are taking home the Cy Young Awards in the National and American League. In the NL, Cubs starter Jake Arrieta beat out Dodgers teammates Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. Astros ace Dallas Keuchel [[ KY-kull ]] took the AL hardware by being voted over David Price of the Blue Jays and the A’s Sonny Gray.
The highest honor in Major League Baseball will be given out tonight. The NL and AL MVP Awards are set to be revealed. The Angels’ Mike Trout, Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson and Royals’ Lorenzo Cain are the finalists in the AL, while the NL will be either the Nationals’ Bryce Harper, Reds’ Joey Votto or Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt.
Jimmy Butler scored a season-high 32 points to lead the Bulls to a 103-97 win over the Suns. Pau Gasol collected 17 points and eight rebounds in Chicago’s fourth straight win. Derrick Rose did not play due to an ankle injury. The Bulls stay on the road and meet the Warriors tomorrow night.
Kevin McHale is out as head coach of the Houston Rockets. McHale was replaced by J.B. Bickerstaff after a 4-and-7 start. In Bickerstaff’s first game as interim head coach, the Rockets erased a 17-point Trail Blazers’ lead to pick up a 108-103 overtime win.
Week 11 of the NFL season kicks off with an AFC South matchup on “Thursday Night Football.” The Titans travel to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars. At 3-and-6, the Jags sit a game behind the Colts and Texans, who are tied for first in the division.
Former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie [[ FLOO-tee ]] is grieving the loss of both his parents, who died within an hour of each other. Dick Flutie had been ill and died of a heart attack in the hospital. His wife of 56 years, Joan, then died suddenly of a heart attack herself.
