Graham Gano’s 52-yard field goal with just over five minutes left in overtime gave the Panthers a wild 29-26 win over the Colts on “Monday Night Football”. Indy scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth and briefly led in overtime before Gano’s boot sent Carolina to 7-and-0.
The Broncos are beefing up their passing attack for the second half of the season. Denver has acquired veteran tight end Vernon Davis from the 49ers. Davis had 18 catches for 194 yards with San Francisco this season. Meanwhile, the NFL trading deadline is at 4:00 p.m. Eastern today.
Trading Vernon Davis isn’t the only change the 2-and-6 49ers are making to their offense. Multiple sources report San Francisco is benching quarterback Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert, who is 5-and-22 as a starter.
The Blackhawks scored three times in the third period to rally for a 4-2 win over the Kings in Chicago. Patrick Kane, Teuvo Teravainen and Artem Anisimov all lit the lamp in the third for the ‘Hawks, who stopped a two-game skid. Jonathan Toews [[ taves ]] scored in the first and Corey Crawford made 33 saves in the victory.
Cavaliers star LeBron James is the youngest player to score 25-thousand career points in NBA history. The 30-year-old James reached the milestone on a dunk in the fourth quarter of Cleveland’s 107-100 win over the 76ers. James is only the 20th player to ever reach the 25-thousand-point mark.
The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season will be released today. Defending national champion Ohio State, Baylor, TCU and LSU are the top four teams in the Coaches’ Poll heading into the first rankings. The College Football Playoffs begin on New Year’s Eve.
The Cardinals are exercising their 11.5-million-dollar contract option on pitcher Jaime [[ HIGH-may ]] Garcia. The 29-year-old was 10-and-6 with a 2.43 ERA this year. The Cards are declining the option on reliever Jonathan Broxton and assigning Pete Kozma to Triple-A Memphis.
