In a game heard on TALK 101 FM, Millikin fell to Aurora 24-20. The Big Blue host North Central next Saturday at 6PM for the first-ever Homecoming game at night. Nicco Stepina passed for the 257 yards and two touchdowns for the Big Blue.
Illinois hung on to beat Middle Tennessee State 27-25 at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Wes Lunt threw for 238 yards and a touchdown for the Illini. Taylor Zalewski nailed a 51 yard field goal with under 2 minutes go in the game that turned out to be the game-winner.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1. Jaime Garcia picked up the win for the Cardinals. The Cards retain a 3 game lead in the NL Central over the Pittsburgh Pirates, who beat the Chicago Cubs 4-0. Jason Hammel took the loss for the Cubs. Chicago is now behind the Pirates by 4 and a half games, staying in the second Wild Card spot for the playoffs.
The St. Louis Cardinals will be without pitcher Carlos Martinez the rest of the season and the playoffs. Martinez left Friday’s game against the Brewers after 7 pitches and is diagnosed with a shoulder strain that should not require any surgery.
The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1. John Danks was the losing hurler for the White Sox.
The winless Chicago Bears will battle the also winless Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday. Jimmy Clausen will start at quarterback in place of the injured Jay Cutler. The Bears will also be without Alshon Jeffery, who is also battling a hamstring injury.
The St Louis Rams are putting the finishing touches on their game plan for Sunday. They host the Steelers at the Edward Jones Dome at noon. Both teams are off to 1-and-1 starts. The Indianapolis Colts travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans on Sunday. Considered a Super Bowl contender, the Colts are 0-and-2 for the second straight year. Indy scored just 21 total points in losses to the Bills and Jets. The Colts have won seven straight against the Titans.
The Chase for the Sprint Cup heads to New Hampshire for the Sylvania 300. The 300-lap, 317-mile-plus race will get underway at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
