Greg Zuerlein [[ ZUR-line ]] kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime and the Rams’ defense held on from there to stun the Seahawks 34-31 at the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams blew a 24-13 lead in the fourth quarter, but Lance Kendricks’ 37-yard TD catch in the final minute forced overtime.
Aaron Rodgers continued his dominance against the rival Bears as the Packers rolled to a 31-23 opening-day victory at Soldier Field. Matt Forte [[ four-tay ]] paced the Bears with 166 total yards and a one-yard score in the second quarter. Jay Cutler threw for 225 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss. The Bears host the Cardinals on Sunday.
The Colts’ offense got pushed around by the Bills’ defense as they fell 27-14 to Buffalo at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Andrew Luck was 26-of-49 for 243 yards and two scores, but tossed two interceptions. Donte Moncrief and Dwayne Allen caught touchdowns for the Colts. The Colts managed 148 yards and no points in the first half as the Bills held a 17-0 lead at the break. Frank Gore had eight carries for 31 yards in his Colts’ debut.
Tony Romo’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten with seven seconds left gave the Cowboys a wild 27-26 win over the Giants. Dallas drove 72 yards with no timeouts in just 1:27 to pull off the dramatic victory.
The Cowboys’ thrilling win over the Giants came at a cost. Wide receiver Dez Bryant broke a bone in his right foot and will be sidelined for four-to-six weeks. Bryant will need to undergo surgery.
Second-overall pick Marcus Mariota threw four touchdown passes as the Titans trounced the Buccaneers, 42-14, in Tampa. Top-overall pick Jameis Winston was 16-of-33 for 210 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the lopsided loss.
The Ravens’ defense was dealt a big blow on Sunday. Star linebacker Terrell Suggs suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Baltimore’s 19-13 loss to the Broncos. Suggs suffered the same injury in 2012.
Thomas Pham hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Cardinals ahead in a 9-2 win over the Reds in Cincinnati. Matt Adams added a pinch-hit, two-run homer to cap a five-run eighth inning as St. Louis avoided a four-game sweep. Michael Wahca [[ WAH-kuh ]] got his 16th win.
Aaron Altherr scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning as the Phillies took down the Cubs, 7-4, in Philadelphia. Chris Coghlan went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and Kris Bryant had an RBI single in defeat. Clayton Richard took the loss.
