Demi Lovato knows that Hollywood glamour isn’t always as fabulous as it seems.
Take, for example, her “terrible” experience at the 2016 Met Gala, an event that’s supposed to be the epitome of fashion and celebrity.
“This one celebrity [at the gala] was a complete b**** and was miserable to be around,” she recounts to Billboard. “It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”
Instead, she went straight to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” she says. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala — fake and s***king the fashion industry’s d***.”
Demi does have some genuine friends in the industry, though, including Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea.
She says hanging out with Ariana is “super chill” and that they once hiked to notorious cult leader Charles Manson’s house and rang the bell. “We were spooking ourselves out!” she says.
As for Iggy, Demi defends the controversial rapper.
“She’s super low-key; she doesn’t drink or party. She has struggled a lot,” Demi says. “…She’s very outspoken, and sometimes it can turn people off. But that’s one of the reasons I love her. She’s not the type of person who lies to you.”
When it comes down to it, Demi says she’s looking for people who respect her sober lifestyle.
“The people that aren’t willing to chill with you at home are the type of people that just want to be seen with you,” she says.
