U Of I Chancellor Wants To Add 500 Professors

(Urbana, IL) -- Despite shriveling state funds and regular tuition increases to keep pace with costs, University of Illinois Chancellor Phyllis Wise says she wants to add 500 professors to the system over the next five to seven years. Wise says she wants to replace the faculty members who have moved on or retired. In fact, the tenured faculty at the U of I’s main campus has dropped from 21-hundred to about 18-hundred-50 in the past five years. Wise hopes the extra faculty will add to the school’s status as a research institution.
