(Decatur, IL) -- There’s a new face looking to make an impact in Decatur. Derrick Thaxton, Sr. is making a bid for a city council seat. The Stephen Decatur grad turns 44 next week and has been a lifelong Decatur resident. He enjoys a successful career as a retail manager, working his way up the corporate ladder over the past quarter-century. Thaxton says he wants to help the city tackle some heavy issues, like stabilizing the water situation, exploring way’s to fund the city’s pension obligations and growing local businesses while improving neighborhoods. Thaxton will be out and about campaigning in the coming weeks.
