The Decatur 9/11 Memorial Fund is only $13,0500 from the needed $240,000 to build a twin tower memorial at Lake Decatur beachfront using a 13 1/2 foot I-beam from the fallen World Trade Centers.
The committee is reaching out to the public one final time in hopes to raise the remaining funds on Tuesday, June 27th from 6am-6pm. The public will be invited out to The Cromwell Radio parking lot at 51 and Eldo from 6am-6pm to see the beam one final time before construction begins. The community can “Plant Pride” by giving a $20 donation, each donation will supply a red tulip bulb that will be planted around the memorial, donors will also receive a red or blue carnation for their support of this piece of history. WAND and The Cromwell Radio Group will broadcasting throughout the day. Community first responders will be on site during the drive to help collect donations.
Lunch will be provided by Hickory River Smokehouse from 11am-1pm for a donation of $8 to the 9/11 Memorial Fund.
Businesses that which to donate to the memorial will have the opportunity to be interviewed on the radio.
Help build a piece of history in Decatur that does justice to the events of 9/11.
