A new report says every adult in the state of Illinois is on the hook for four thousand-dollars of the cost to pay for healthcare for retired teachers. The report from the Bellwether Education Partners says, as a state, Illinois owes 54 billion-dollars to cover healthcare costs for retired teachers. Illinois is one of 35 states that offer retired teachers a generous healthcare package. The study is quick to add that the 54 billion doesn’t include the tens-of-billions of dollars that taxpayers owe to cover teacher pensions in the state.
