Reynaldo Lopez pitched into the seventh inning to grab the win.

(St. Louis, MO) — Matt Carpenter went 5-for-5 with two home runs as the Cardinals crushed the Indians 11-2 at Busch Stadium. “Carp” drove in three and scored five times as St. Louis won its fourth in-a-row. Jose Martinez and Kolten Wong also homered. Carlos Martinez got the victory.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Javier Baez carried the Cubs’ offense in a 9-4 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Baez had four hits, two homers and five RBI. His grand slam in the sixth inning broke the game open. Ben Zobrist and Addison Russell each had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run as Chicago snapped a five-game skid.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Cubs are finally placing third baseman Kris Bryant on the disabled list. It’s the first time he’s been placed on the DL during his four-year career. The decision is retroactive to Saturday. Bryant is dealing with left shoulder inflammation that is believed to have started to bother him about a month ago. Chicago manager Joe Maddon says he doesn’t think the injury is serious and expects him to be activated next Tuesday.

(Flushing, NY) — Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson is taking a leave of absence to be treated for cancer again. The 70-year-old says his cancer returned in April and he is undergoing chemotherapy. Alderson was previously diagnosed with the disease back in 2015. He has been the Mets’ full-time general manager since 2010.

(Undated) — Austin and Doc are no longer together in LA. The Clippers have agreed to trade Austin Rivers to the Wizards for center Marcin Gortat [[ MAR-chin gore-TAHT ]]. Austin is the son of Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, who he’s played for the past three-plus seasons. LA center DeAndre Jordan could be next on the trade block.

(El Segundo, CA) — Lakers president Magic Johnson is putting his name on the line. Johnson tells reporters that if he doesn’t make a huge splash in free agency this summer or next, he will quit.
